Headford Business Park History: The 433 acres that comprise this business park include the land north of Sixteenth Avenue between Leslie Street and Highway 404 north to Major Mackenzie Drive.

Originally, the southern 200 acres (Lot 16, Markham) was assigned to Berczy settler Charles Henry Vogel in 1794. In 1831, the west half ended up in the hands of David Leek and then Daniel Leek in 1847. The original Leeks' homes were demolished in the 1980's.

The 200 acre property (Lot 17, Markham) to the north was sold by William Berczy in 1804 to Angus McDonell, who sold it to Christian Henricks in 1832. His descendants lived in the same stone farmhouse that Christian built in 1834 right up to the 1990's.

Lot 18 was owned at various times by Sophia Temple, Ann Kakmann and Isaiah Wilmott. In 1860, a road ran across the north boundary of the property, dropped south to skirt a millpond and sawmill on a tributary of the present Beaver Creek, and then continued east to Concession 4.

Lot 19 was sold several times in a short period, with sellers Frederick Eckardt, James Gamble, George Squires and Jason Wilmott each making larger and larger profits, probably because of the presence of the watercourse and millpond that made the property so valuable.

The northern property forming the Headford Business Park saw owner Rowland Burr build a grist mill, and the Hamlet of Headford began to develop along the concession road of Lot 20. Traces of some of the older buildings can still be found on the east side of Leslie Street just south of Major Mackenzie Drive.

Wilmott and Leek are remembered by streets named after them in the Beaver Creek Business Park. The First Methodist church at Headford was known as Leek's Chapel. But the most well-known historical street in the Headford Business Park is Vogell Road named after Charles Henry Vogel (Vogell).

Headford Business Park Real Estate: Real estate in the Headford neighbourhood consists almost entirely of the buying and selling of industrial, commercial and investment properties. From leases to the sale of businesses to the sale of smaller commercial and industrial condominiums to the sale of larger warehouses and factories to the sale of vacant land, the real estate transactions are many and varied.

Smaller condominiums sell from about $153,000.00 up to about $450,000 or more depending on the size. Asking prices of up to $12,000,000.00 for large buildings are common.

There is only one residential property left in Headford, and that is the first house south of Major Mackenzie Drive on the east side of Leslie Street. It would be prudent to think that the residential zoning, here, would change to business, professional or some other commercial or industrial use.

At present, business services such as professional, scientific, technical and management of companies, hospitality and retail stores are very common uses in the business park. Staples Business Depot, TetraPak, Mazda Canada and Rubicon are some of the companies that make Headford Business Park home to their Canadian head offices.
