The City of Vaughan is now made up of eighteen neighbourhoods. In recent memory it was mostly rural with the Village of Thornhill, Maple, Woodbridge and later Kleinburg that residents focused on. Gradually, the population increased and the Town of Vaughan started to rapidly expand. Thornhill grew into Uplands, Brownridge, Glen Shields, Lakeview Estates, Crestwood-Springfarm-Yorkhill, Beverley Glen and Patterson, with Beverley Glen and Patterson experiencing tremendous growth in what was mostly farmland. Woodbridge became East and West Woodbridge along with Elder Mills and Islington Woods. Maple expanded along with more growth in Vellore Village to the west. Smaller detached houses gave way to homes of all types including semi-detached, linked and a great proliferation of townhomes in most of the newer neighbourhoods. Highrise condominiums are also dotting the landscape mostly along Highway 7 and Yonge Street to support the Viva transportation service. Expensive, luxury homes are now continuing in Vellore Village, Patterson, Beverley Glen, Woodbridge and Kleinburg and are replacing older properties in Woodbridge, Islington Woods, Uplands and Crestwood-Springfarm-Yorkhill. Prices and sales are increasing, too, as is the demand for homes.
Farms and rural land are now confined mainly in Kleinburg, the West Woodbridge Industrial Area and Rural Vaughan north of Maple and Patterson. Industry and commercial ventures have grown along with residential development in Vaughan Grove, Pine Valley Business Park, Concord (and Langstaff) and the Steeles West and West Woodbridge Industrial Areas.
As well as residential and industial development, the city allowed for the feeling of community with an extensive network of parks, trails, greenspace and other recreational and shopping facilities to attract and hold real estate buyers and sellers. In short, Vaughan has become a leader in providing planned growth for the benefit of all residents of York Region.
Vaughan neighbourhoods are described in the following videos, which should give a good feel for those looking to move to or within the various communities.
